  • Round 12: (1 sc, 1 dec) x 6. (12)

  • Round 13: 6 dec. (6)

  • Fasten off, weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining 6 stitches, pull tightly to seal, and bury the thread inside.

2. Ears (Make 2)

Start with Black yarn. Do not stuff.

  • Round 1: 5 sc into a MR. (5)

  • Round 2: 5 sc around. On the 5th stitch, change color to Yellow yarn. Cut black yarn and tie securely to the yellow tail.

  • Rounds 3–5: 5 sc around. (5 for 3 rounds)

  • Fasten off, leaving a long yellow thread for sewing them to the top of the head.

3. Lightning Bolt Tail

Start with Brown yarn. Do not stuff. The jagged edge is formed by stepping out using chains.

  • Row 1: Ch 4. Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, work 1 sc, 1 sc, then 1 inc in the last chain. Turn and work along the opposite side of the chain foundation: 2 sc. (6)

  • Row 2: 6 sc around. (6)

  • Row 3: Flatten the piece and sc across both thicknesses to join it closed. On the final pull-through, change to Yellow yarn. Cut the brown yarn.

  • Row 4 (Step 1): Working on one side of the piece, work 2 sc, ch 1, turn. Work 2 sc back across. (4 stitches total across the step).

  • Row 5: 4 sc around the edge of this new step.

  • Row 6: Fold and sc across both thicknesses for 2 stitches, ch 2, turn. Work 2 sc back across the chains.

  • Row 7: Work 2 sc, and then under the previous chain spaces, expand by working 6 sc, then 2 sc on the reverse side. (10)

  • Rounds 8–9: 10 sc around. (10 for 2 rounds)

  • Row 10: Flatten the open top edge completely and work 5 sc through both sides to seal it closed. Fasten off, leaving a long yellow tail for attachment.

4. Face Details & Assembly

  • Facial Sculpting: Thread a needle with yellow yarn. Insert at the bottom of the neck up to the inner corner of one eye, pull horizontally across to the outer corner, and drop back down to the neck base. Repeat for the second eye. Pull gently on both tail ends to settle the eyes into the face, tie off, and bury the knots.

  • Cheeks: Take a needle with red plush yarn and make a simple, thick single stitch directly underneath and slightly to the outside of each eye to form the rosy cheeks.

  • Embroidery: Use thin black cotton thread to stitch tiny eyebrows, a small inverted triangle nose right between the eyes, a line down from the nose, and a wide “W” shaped smile caught down in the middle.

  • Assembly: Sew the two ears symmetrically to the top of the head. Sew the base of the lightning tail to the middle of Pikachu’s back, anchoring it securely so it stands up nicely.
