Pattern to Crochet the Little Smurf Plushie

Skill Level: Beginner (Level 3)

You will make a classic character with a blue body and a white hat. The steps are fast to follow. You start at the feet and work your way up to the top of the hat.

You will crochet the tail, arms, and nose into the main body so you do not have to sew them on later. When the body is done, you will crochet the ears right onto the sides of the head and sew the top of the hat to bend forward.

Materials

Plush Yarn (Super Bulky / Category 6): White (for the pants and hat) and Light Blue (for the main body/skin).
Crochet Hook: 4.0 mm.
Safety Eyes: 10 mm.
Stuffing: Fiberfill.
Embroidery Thread/Yarn: Thin black thread for the mouth. White plush yarn for eye details.
Tools: Yarn needle and scissors.

Smurf Pattern

Body Work starts from the bottom going up. Use White plush yarn.

R1: Make 8 sc in a MR. (8 sts)
R2: 8 inc. (16 sts)
R3 (Tail & Legs): With White, make 1 sc but do not finish it. Change to Blue yarn. ch 2. In the 2nd ch from the hook, make 1 sc. sl st into the same base stitch on the body to finish the tail. Change back to White yarn. 4 sc. Make the first leg: 1 dc3tog. 4 sc. Make the second leg: 1 dc3tog. 5 sc. (16 sts)
R4: 1 sc in each st around. (16 sts) Change to Blue yarn at the end of the round.
R5 (Arms): With Blue yarn, 6 sc. Make the first arm: 1 dc3tog. 2 sc. Make the second arm: 1 dc3tog. 6 sc. (16 sts)
R6: (2 sc, dec) 4 times. (12 sts)
R7 (Head): 12 inc. (24 sts)
R8: 1 sc in each st around. (24 sts)
R9 (Nose): 12 sc. Make the nose: 1 dc3tog. 11 sc. (24 sts)
R10-11: 1 sc in each st around. (24 sts for 2 rounds) Change to White yarn at the end of R11.
R12: With White yarn, 1 sc in each st around. (24 sts)
R13 (Hat Brim): In BLO, 1 sc in each st around. (24 sts)
R14: (4 sc, dec) 4 times. (20 sts)
R15: 1 sc in each st around. (20 sts)
Hat Brim Detail: Take your white yarn and join it to the exposed Front Loops (FLO) from R13. Make 1 sl st loosely into each front loop around the head. Fasten off and hide the tails. Insert safety eyes between R10 and R11. Stuff the body and the bottom of the head firmly with fiberfill.
R16: (8 sc, dec) 2 times. (18 sts)
R17: 1 sc in each st around. (18 sts)
R18: (7 sc, dec) 2 times. (16 sts)
Add a little bit more stuffing to the top of the head. Do NOT stuff the rest of the hat.
R19: (6 sc, dec) 2 times. (14 sts)
R20: (5 sc, dec) 2 times. (12 sts)
R21: (4 sc, dec) 2 times. (10 sts)
R22: (3 sc, dec) 2 times. (8 sts)
R23: 4 dec. (4 sts)
Finish body: Fasten off, weave the yarn tail through the front loops of the remaining stitches, pull tight to close the hole, and hide the end inside the hat.

Ears (Make 2)

Attach Blue yarn to the side of the head, right under the edge of the hat.
ch 4.
In the 3rd ch from the hook, make 1 dc.
In the last ch, make 1 hdc.
sl st into the base on the head to secure the ear.
Fasten off and hide the ends inside. Repeat these steps on the other side of the head for the second ear.

Assembly & Details

Bend the Hat: Take a long piece of white yarn on your needle. Fold the top point of the hat down over the nose. Put a few small sewing stitches through the tip of the hat down into the side of the hat right above the brim to lock it in place. Hide the yarn ends inside.
Eyes: Using white plush yarn, sew a small half-circle under each safety eye to create the whites of the eyes.
Mouth: Using thin black thread, embroider a small simple smile below the nose.
