For this week’s “crochet fall plushie” tester, I wanted to imagine something easy yet unique. With some inspiration, I came up with this oh-so-cute crochet beginner-friendly variation of the trendy crochet pumpkin octopus plushie, aka the pumptopus plushie that you can crochet using both the plush yarn and the amigurumi cotton yarn. It has coiled arms of a UNIQUE fall palette: aqua, blue, fall red, and golden yellow. The pumpkin plushie part is also crocheted using the golden yellow, but you can also try the orange, purple, and even aqua.
We will crochet 8 tentacles in total. Why is this crochet pumpkin octopus mini plushie variation the easiest? Well, it is because we are gonna crochet a pumpkin plushie using the usual crochet ribbed rectangle sewing method, which every beginner might have already encountered.

This means you don’t need the octopus amigurumi head pattern. And the crochet coiled octopus arm pattern is also basic and classic. So, be sure to crochet this UNIQUE Halloween and fall octopus amigurumi as a hanging decoration or a present for a little one. You can easily complete it within 30 minutes. Note that I have set the tentacle length variable so you can crochet them in any number and length. It would look equally cute hanging and placed.

CURLY OCTOPUS TENTACLES (Make 8 Total) Using alternating colors (Teal, Rust, Yellow):
Foundation: ch 16.
Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from your hook, work 2 sc into each chain stitch all the way back across (30 sc total).
Note: Working 2 single crochets into every chain forces the row to twist automatically, creating the spiral tentacle shape.
Fasten off, leaving an 8-inch yarn tail to attach the tentacle to the bottom base.
Repeat to make 8 tentacles in your preferred color distribution. Make them as longer as you want!
DETAILED STEP-BY-STEP ASSEMBLY
Form the Cylinder: Fold the ribbed pumpkin rectangle so the two short ends (Row 1 and Row 21) meet. Using your yarn needle and the long tail, sew the two short edges together using a mattress stitch or whipstitch. You will end up with a ribbed tube.
Cinch the Top: Thread your yarn needle with the top tail. Weave the needle through the front loops of every stitch around the top edge. Pull firmly to gather and close the opening completely. Knot securely on the inside.
Attach Eyes & Stuffing: Insert safety eyes between two of the vertical ridges near the middle of the body, leaving about 4 to 5 ridges between them. Place the backings securely. Fill the pumpkin firmly with fiberfill stuffing.
Cinch the Bottom: Weave your yarn needle through the front loops around the bottom edge of the tube. Pull tightly to close the bottom. Tie off and weave in the end.
Attach the Stem: Center the brown stem over the gathered top cinched hole and sew it flat to the pumpkin body.
Attach the Tentacles: Flip the pumpkin upside down. Arrange all 8 curly tentacles evenly in a circle around the bottom center gathering ring. Use the yarn tails to sew each tentacle firmly to the base. Weave in all loose ends.
