3rd pattern tester call for this Halloween is here! Introducing the crochet LEGGY BOO ghost plushie – a unique variant of the crochet ghost in a pumpkin lid hat that you can learn how to crochet with this FREE written pattern. Unlike the usual ghost plushies that have a ruffle skirt and bobble-stitch arms, this crochet BOO plush has no-sew-joined legs and long arms attached separately. This is the same pattern I promised to share with you in the ghost monster plush tutorial.

Crochet this baby ghost plushie as a bag charm for your trick-or-treating bag, a keychain for a fall tote bag, and an anti-stress toy. Finish your crochet Halloween miniature ghost with the embroidered blush on the cheeks.

Be sure to test the other crochet ghost-and-pumpkin hybrid patterns I have already shared. You can also crochet your plush with the thin plush yarn or cotton yarn, too. Crocheting one won’t take more than 30 minutes. The hat is also removable. Now, I want to emphasize again that this is the pattern that needs testing. But you can trust me and follow along!

Featured Work

Materials Needed

Yarn: Super bulky (weight 6) chenille yarn in White, Orange, and Green.
Embroidery Yarn: Small amounts of black (for the smile) and pink (for the cheeks).
Hook: 5.0 mm or 5.5 mm crochet hook (adjust depending on your tension).
Eyes: 14mm – 16mm safety eyes.
Extras: Polyfill stuffing, tapestry needle, stitch markers, and scissors.

MR: Magic Ring
SC: Single Crochet
HDC: Half Double Crochet
INC: Increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
DEC: Invisible Decrease (sc 2 together)
CH: Chain

Pattern Instructions

1. Legs (Make 2)

Using White yarn. Round 1: 6 sc in MR. (6)

Round 2: 6 inc. (12)

Round 3: 12 sc. (12) Fasten off the first leg. Do not fasten off the second leg—we will continue from the second leg to join them and create the body.

2. Body

Continuing with White yarn from Leg 2.

Round 4 (Joining): Ch 2. Sc into the first unworked stitch of Leg 1. Sc in the remaining 11 sts of Leg 1. Sc into the 2 front loops of the Ch 2. Sc into all 12 sts of Leg 2. Sc into the 2 back loops of the Ch 2. (28 sts total)

Round 5: [6 sc, inc] x 4. (32)

Round 6: [7 sc, inc] x 4. (36)

Rounds 7 – 14 (8 rounds): 36 sc. (36)

Round 15: [4 sc, dec] x 6. (30) Insert safety eyes between Rounds 13 and 14, spacing them about 4 to 5 stitches apart.

Round 16: 30 sc. (30)

Round 17: [3 sc, dec] x 6. (24) Begin stuffing the body firmly, paying special attention to shaping the legs. Round 18: [2 sc, dec] x 6. (18)

Round 19: [1 sc, dec] x 6. (12)

Round 20: 6 dec. (6) Finish stuffing. FO, leaving a tail. Weave the tail through the front loops of the remaining 6 stitches and pull tight to close. Hide the yarn tail inside the body.

3. Arms (Make 2)

Using White yarn.

Round 1: 6 sc in MR. (6)

Round 2: [2 sc, inc] x 2. (8)

Rounds 3 – 5: 8 sc. (8) FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff (or stuff very lightly).

The Pumpkin Hat

Worked in continuous rounds. Do not join at the end of rounds unless specified.

Round 1: Using orange yarn, make 6 sc into a Magic Ring. (6 sts)
Round 2: [Inc] repeat 6 times. (12 sts)
Round 3: [1 sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (18 sts)
Round 4: [2 sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (24 sts)
Round 5: [3 sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (30 sts)
Round 6: Sc in each stitch around. (30 sts)
Round 7: Optional flare rim – Slip stitch loosely in each stitch around to create a clean, slightly turned-out edge.

FO and weave in the ends, leaving a tail if you plan to sew it onto a base, or weave it completely clean if it’s meant to be a removable lid.

The Green Stem
We will work this from the top down.

Row 1: Using green yarn, chain 3 and fasten off.

Assembly Instructions

Prep the Hat: Sew the Green Stem securely to the top center (Round 1) of the Orange Lid.
Attach Hat to Body: Place the Orange Lid on top of the ghost’s head. It should fit snugly like a beanie. Using the long orange tail, sew the lid directly to the head, going through the loops of Round 6 on the hat and the corresponding stitches on the top of the white body.
Attach Arms: Flatten the open ends of the white arms. Pin them to the sides of the body, approximately between Rounds 9 and 10 (just slightly below eye level), and sew them securely in place.
