This Christmas, learn how to crochet these striped, colorful, and simply elegant crochet mini stockings out of hexagon motifs with a step-by-step tutorial for beginners. This is a bit larger than a usual crochet stocking pattern, made of a 5-round classic granny stitch hexagon with curls that ensure perfect assembly. As you hang your finished crochet stockings, you can also fill them with small presents (it is practical, too). You can choose from 3 color combinations using yellow, green, red, white, and brown. You can also crochet the cuff with fuzzy yarn and attach a knotted bow twine cord to it, too.

Since you can crochet this stocking gift pocket using any hexagon motif, I recommend crocheting the daisy hexagon and following the assembly to turn it into a daisy stocking instead. You only need cluster and chain spaces to crochet this striped granny stitch stocking.

Soon I will also bring a FREE pattern to crochet the solid red and white crochet stocking, too. For now, learn how to crochet this beautiful and beginner-friendly crochet granny hexagon stocking. Make them as last-minute Christmas gifts, Tree ornaments, Gift card holders, Scrap yarn projects, and the NEW year decorations. You can also crochet a set of these stockings to turn them into a Christmas garland.

Tutorial to Crochet the Hexagon Motif Stocking

This tutorial teaches how to make a mini crochet stocking using a single granny hexagon. The process starts by making a magic ring and crocheting five rounds to form a hexagon with clusters of double crochets and chain spaces. After completing the hexagon, it is folded into a shape to look like a stocking.

The folded sides are joined using slip stitches to keep the stocking reversible. Finally, a ribbed cuff is added to the top by crocheting back and forth in the back loops, and it is folded over. You can decorate it with bells, bows, or twine.

Difficulty Level: Beginner-friendly. The pattern is easy because it uses basic stitches like double crochet and single crochet. The shaping only requires folding one flat hexagon in half and seaming the edges, entirely avoiding complicated decreases or round shaping.

Pattern Abbreviations

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet

Difficult Stitch Details

Standing Double Crochet: Make a slip knot on your hook. Hold the knot and yarn over with your finger so it does not twist. Insert the hook into a corner space and pull up a loop, leaving three loops on the hook.

Yarn over and pull through the first two loops. Yarn over and pull through the last two loops. This seamlessly attaches a new color without using a starting chain.
