This Halloween, learn how to crochet these 2 KAWAII variations of a crochet ghost bag charm + keyholder with a step-by-step tutorial. Both of these are baby BOO ghost keyholders with a “pull to hide” mechanism. The first ghost variation wears a witch hat in purple; the second one is charmed up with a black bat appliqué (like the one I taught last week). Crochet it as a bag charm for your Halloween trick-or-treating bag or to hide a key that opens to Halloween candies.

The hat and the black bat appliqué will both stay attached to the pullable string of these ghost puppets and keyholders. The bottom loop will hold your keyring, and here you can attach the car and room keys.

Tutorial to Crochet Ghost Keyholder (Witch Hat + Bat Applique)

Let’s learn how to crochet a ghost key cover. There are two variations: a ghost with a bat and a ghost with a witch hat. First, you crochet the ghost body using single crochet stitches and increases in rounds.

You make the arms using the bobble stitch. Next, you crochet the bat or the witch hat. After that, you embroider the face and attach the bat or the witch hat to the ghost. Finally, you attach the key string inside the ghost. This key cover is a great Halloween project.

Difficulty Level

Intermediate. This pattern is intermediate because it requires working in rounds and tracking your stitch counts. You also must crochet multiple tiny, detailed parts (like the bat wings and the witch hat) and assemble them.

Furthermore, the pattern uses the bobble stitch to shape the arms, which requires managing multiple yarn loops on your hook at the same time.

Materials Needed:

Yarn: Cotton or acrylic yarn (White for the ghost, black for the bat/hat, and a contrast color for the hat band)

Difficult Stitches Explained

1. The Bobble Stitch (Used for the ghost arms)

The bobble stitch creates a textured, 3D bump that will be used as the ghost’s arms.

Yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, grab the yarn, and pull up a loop.
Yarn over and pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook (leave the last loop on the hook).
Repeat steps 1 and 2 three or four more times into the exact same stitch until you have 4 to 5 loops on your hook.
Yarn over and pull the yarn through all the loops on your hook at the same time.
Work a regular single crochet into the next stitch, and use your finger to push the bobble outward so the arm pops out.
