For today’s crochet pattern from the community-fav food plushie series, I wanted a funny and quirky yet a bit spooky crochet plush bun. Introducing, the crochet funny baby orange crochet favorite food plushie variation with a FREE written pattern. This crochet orange bao bun has wacky open mouth made using the randomly cute felt with 4 spaced embroidery teeth.

This is my favorite crochet plush dumpling variation so far for its perfectly funny face. Will make an irresistible gift for kids and they would be more than happy to recieve one.

It also has a little crochet stem and a leaf on the top. Again, we also have used the black color for the steamer basket. The basket also has a lid. So, be sure to learn how to crochet this plush dumpling and continue reading.

Pattern to Crochet the Plush Orange & Spooky Plush Dumpling

Skill Level: Beginner – Level 4

Materials Needed

Following are the recommended supplies for this crochet orange dumpling plush:

Orange Plush Yarn (100g / 120m): Main dumpling body.
White Plush Yarn (100g / 120m): Top crown and ruffle of the dumpling.
Black Plush Yarn (100g / 120m): Outer basket box and handle.
Brown Semi-Cotton Yarn (DK / Weight 3): Stem.
Green Semi-Cotton Yarn (DK / Weight 3): Leaf.
Black Semi-Cotton Yarn / Embroidery Floss: Face features (eyes, triangle nose, mouth base).
White Semi-Cotton Yarn / Embroidery Floss: Teeth/fangs.
3.5 mm & 4.0 mm Crochet Hooks: (Use 4.0 mm for plush yarn, 3.5 mm for stem and leaf).

Orange & White Dumpling Pattern

Dumpling Body Start with Orange plush yarn and 4.0 mm hook.

R1: 8 sc in MR (8)
R2: 8 inc (16)
R3: (1 sc, inc) repeat 8 times (24)
R4: (2 sc, inc) repeat 8 times (32)
R5–R7 (3 rounds): 32 sc (32)
R8: 32 sc (32)

Change to White plush yarn on the final pull-through of the last stitch in R7.

R9: (2 sc, dec) repeat 8 times (24)
R10: (1 sc, dec) repeat 8 times (16)
Stuff the dumpling firmly with toy stuffing.
R11: 8 dec (8)

Top White Ruffle

R12: Working in FLO (front loops only) of R11, (inc, 1 sc) repeat around to the end of the round.
Sl st to join, cut yarn, and weave in the end.

Stem & Leaf Pattern

Brown Stem Using Brown yarn and 3.5 mm hook.

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2–R5 (4 rounds): 6 sc (6)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. (Lightly stuff if desired).

Green Leaf Using Green yarn and 3.5 mm hook.

Chain 6.
Starting in 2nd chain from hook: 1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 3 hdc in the last chain stitch.
Turn to work on the opposite side of the chain: 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st.
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Detailed Guide: Face & Mouth Embroidery

Perform all facial embroidery on the orange section before attaching the stem and leaf.

Squinting Eyes:
- Thread black semi-cotton yarn onto a tapestry needle.
- Locate R6 (1–2 rows below the white color transition).
- Embroider two horizontal stitches angled slightly downward on the outer edges, leaving about 5–6 stitches between them.
- Make a short vertical stitch on the outer corner of each eye to form the happy squint shape.
Triangle Nose:
- Center the nose between the eyes on R6–R7.
- Stitch a small upward-pointing triangle with black yarn and fill it in with 2–3 horizontal stitches.
Wide Black Open Mouth:
- Outline a wide crescent shape on R5–R6 extending just past the width of the eyes.
- Stitch horizontal or vertical satin stitches inside the outline to create a solid black open mouth shape.
White Teeth/Fangs:
- Thread white semi-cotton yarn.
- Make 2 small vertical straight stitches along the top border of the black mouth, pointing down.
- Make 2 small vertical straight stitches along the bottom border of the black mouth, pointing up.
- Tie off all threads securely inside the dumpling body.

Black Basket / Box Pattern

Make 2 parts using Black plush yarn and 4.0 mm hook.

R1: 8 sc in MR (8)
R2: 8 inc (16)
R3: (1 sc, inc) repeat 8 times (24)
R4: (2 sc, inc) repeat 8 times (32)
R5: (7 sc, inc) repeat 4 times (36)
R6: 36 sc in BLO (36)
R7–R8 (2 rounds): 36 sc (36)
Top Lid: Cut yarn and weave in the end.
Bottom Base: Do not cut yarn.

Assembly

Align the bottom base and top lid side-by-side.
Join with 5–6 sc stitches through the back loop of the lid and front loop of the base to create the hinge.
Handle: Join black yarn to one side of the base, chain 20 (or desired length), attach to the opposite side of the box, ch 1, turn, sc back down the chain, and sl st to the starting side to secure. Fasten off and weave in all remaining ends.
Sew the brown stem into the center of the top white opening of the dumpling, and sew the leaf directly next to the base of the stem.
