From today, I am starting the NEW “crochet out-of-this-world amigurumi character” plushie series. We are beginning by featuring this 3-variations-in-1 crochet flying dragon plushie that you will learn how to crochet with a step-by-step tutorial for absolute beginners. These are the medium-sized CUTE baby dragon plushies, including a girl-favorite white-pink dragon, spooky black-red dragon, and gender-neutral blue-white dragon plush. Make great birthday gifts for little ones.

We will crochet a beautiful dragon wing contrasting color pattern by surface-stitching with either pink, red, or white over the wings. The dragon horns will also be crocheted in the same color as the wing pattern.

You can also crochet an exclusive lime green and black dragon variation that I love SO MUCH. With the super bulky chennile yarn, you can easily finish crocheting this plush within 1 hour. You can have a slightly smaller crochet plush that can even be used as a bag charm for cosplay and Halloween if you use the skinny yarn, aka thin chennile yarn. This yarn provides the same texture but with less thickness. Now, you can continue reading to learn more about this plush project!

Tutorial to Crochet 3 Cute Dragon Plushies

This is a step-by-step tutorial on how to crochet a mini dragon plushie amigurumi. The creator shows how to make the feet, body, wings, horns, and ears using chenille wool and a crochet hook. Instead of a magic ring, the body and feet start with two chains.

The pattern uses single crochets, increases, and decreases. The wings are made with half double, double, and triple crochets. The creator adds safety eyes and stuffing to the body. A second color border is crocheted around the wings before sewing all the parts together to complete the little toy dragon.

Difficulty Level

Beginner

Why this is the difficulty

The tutorial is labeled for beginners because the creator demonstrates each round slowly and simplifies complex techniques. For example, chaining two is used instead of a magic ring, which is easier when using thick chenille wool. However, sewing the wings, legs, horns, and ears to the body requires patience. The wings also introduce taller stitches like the triple crochet, which requires careful counting, but the repetitive shapes make it manageable for a beginner.

Materials

  • Chenille wool in a main color (100g)
  • Chenille wool in a second color
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Safety eyes
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker or thread
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing material
