Insert your hook from top to bottom into the front loop and the side bar/post of the double crochet stitch you just made.
Yarn over and pull up a loop (2 loops on the hook).
Yarn over and pull through both loops to complete the single crochet (sc). This locks the 2 chains into a sharp point at the top of the double crochet.
