Tutorial to Crochet the Owl Buddy Plushie

This tutorial shows how to crochet a plush owl toy in one piece without sewing the main parts. First, crochet two wings and make a scalloped edge on each wing. Next, crochet the body from the bottom up. Crochet the yellow feet directly into the fourth round with color changes. Crochet the tail into the fifth round. Crochet the wings directly into the tenth round.

Continue crocheting upward to form the head. Insert safety eyes, stuff the toy, and close the head. Finally, sculpt the eye sockets, embroider the beak, make loop ear tufts, and add a scarf.

Difficulty Level

Intermediate

Why:

  • Plush Yarn Visibility: Thick chenille yarn hides stitch definition, making it easy to drop or miscount stitches.

  • Seamless (No-Sew) Construction: Pieces like the feet, tail, and wings are crocheted directly into the body in specific stitches rather than sewn on later, which requires precise placement and mid-row color changes.

  • Facial Sculpting & Surface Loops: Shaping the face requires needle sculpting to pull the eye sockets inward, as well as pulling loose surface loops through head stitches to form the ear tufts.
