After a whole month, I am back with another FEATURED crochet textured pumpkin decoration tutorial. This crochet pumpkin amigurumi features a beautiful texture of puff V-stitch that runs vertically along the pumpkin and creates the pumpkin ridges, too. 3 sizes are available, and luckily, you can also learn how to crochet one with a written pattern. My favorite of the color combinations is the earthy red and pink gradient crochet pumpkin, but you can also crochet yours using other colors.
Crochet a trio of all three pumpkins and make a tiered decoration by crocheting your pumpkins in aqua, off-white, and dark red. With these unique color options, these crochet amigurumi pumpkins can be rightly called the unusual pumpkins.
The cinnamon stick will be used as a crochet stem, which is why I put these crochet pumpkins in the cottage decorations category. You will also learn how to crochet the puff V stitch using the double crochet cluster and the chain stitch in this tutorial. Tutorial to Crochet A Cottage Decoration Fall Pumpkin
This video shows how to crochet a textured flower puff pumpkin. The pattern works in rounds, starting with a magic ring of half double crochets. Increases are made in the early rounds. Next, V puff stitches and back post double crochets are used to create the textured sides.
Decrease rounds follow, using back post double crochet decreases and invisible single crochet decreases to close the shape. After stuffing with fiberfill, the yarn tail is pulled through the center to create a pumpkin indent. A stick and twine are added as a stem. The pattern makes a five-inch pumpkin.
Difficulty
Intermediate. This is the difficulty because the pattern uses complex stitch combinations like V puff stitches, back post double crochets, and post-stitch decreases. Working around the post of a stitch and managing seven loops on a hook requires more tension control and spatial awareness than basic beginner patterns.
Materials
- Worsted weight acrylic yarn (or cake/self-striping yarn)
- 5.5 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Darning needle with a big opening
- Fiberfill
- Wooden stick or cinnamon stick
- Twine

Difficult Stitches
V Puff Stitch:
Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, and pull a long loop. Repeat this two more times into the exact same stitch so you have seven loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the first six loops. You have two loops left. Yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops. Chain one. Make a second puff stitch in the exact same stitch to complete the V puff.
Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC)
Yarn over. Insert your hook from back to front, and then front to back around the vertical post of the target stitch. Pull up a loop. Yarn over, pull through the first two loops. Yarn over, pull through the remaining two loops.
Back Post Double Crochet Decrease (BPDC2TOG):
Yarn over. Insert your hook around the post of the first stitch from back to front to back. Pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through two loops, leaving an unfinished stitch on the hook. Yarn over. Insert your hook around the post of the next stitch from back to front to back. Pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through two loops. You now have three loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all three loops.
