Welcome back to another part of the “Winner for Must-Have Crochet Bags Series”. Today, I will talk about ways to crochet the variations of a tote, sling, crossbody, and drawstring bag and ways to crochet them.
From the mesh stitch bag for summer to the macrame yarn bag for formal events, you’re gonna find and learn really beautiful bags with FREE PATTERNS.
For kids, I have a cute Hello Kitty bag, and for clever construction seekers, a square bag. And these bags are easy, quick, and fun to crochet.

Let’s crochet a beautiful colorwork tote bag with a mesh texture and knotted crochet bows. The base, however, is solid, but the handle again requires mesh stitch. With that said, this beach tote bag should be lightweight and comfy to carry along.
Based on the number of rows and the height of the bag, the recommended number of color panels is four. You can definitely crochet yours with two panels, and also use shades of the same color.
For this one, the square mesh is used, which is the easiest of this type. Wanna crochet? Use cotton yarn with a 2.5mm crochet hook.
Finished Size: 26 cm by 27 cm.
Way #2: Crochet A Handbag

This 2-in-1 crochet handbag is crocheted using macrame yarn, which makes it stretchy and gives a premium look. There is a magnetic button for closure, two pearled bow knots as embellishemnts and an I-cord handle that also works as drawstirng.
Except for the two puff V-stitches in each row, this whole handbag only uses double crochet.
Since it has a balanced texture (boutique look), it’s perfect for formal occasions. Wanna try? Choose from aqua, hot pink, or sea green for the same premium look.
Why 2-in-1? Probably because of the adjustable handle or because the strap functions in two ways.

Make Crochet BagsWay #3: Crochet A Handbag (Version 2)

With the traditional jewelry button closure, beautiful criss-cross stitch pattern, and stripework, this is the ultimate handbag option. It has a solid circular base but sides are closed in pymaid-style. Otherwise, you will end up with a round crochet basket.
There are two options for the handle: a 28 cm pearl strap for hand-carrying and a 76-78 cm crocheted i-cord strap for shoulder wear. So, I must call it “2-in-1 bag.”
As for stripes, you have to alternate between white and your chosen color. My recommendation would be to use macrame yarn for this one, too.
Way #4: Crochet A Cat Bag

This cute Hello Kitty crochet bum bag is from the “Animal Bag Series” that I will be bringing very soon. Gonna be a long zipper bag for baby girls showing Hello Kitty holding a Heart.
Unlike the bag in part 1, thanks to the shape of the bag and colorwork, you can crochet the full body of Hello Kitty. There are stuffed ears, arms, and tail, and flat add-ons like a bow, cat paws, 1-round crochet heart.
Once filled with travel stuff, it will already be a cute Hello Kitty doll attached to you. There is a ribbed rectangular strap, so you can easily adjust its height.
Size: 11 cm x 20 cm
Way #5: Crochet A Drawstring Bag

Let’s crochet a miniature drawstring pouch from only two solid granny squares and beads with this pattern. This pouch is from “Bags with Clever Construction Series” and is the easiest of them.
Very little extra crocheting is needed after joining the squares. With a small handle, you can use it as a garlic bag or what many call the supplemetry bag by attaching to a tote bag.
I don’t think many of you will be able to buy the Papery Yarn that the designer recommends, so I highly recommend trying with cotton yarn. Wanna crochet as a gift bag? Choose from aqua and brown.
Way #1: Crochet A Rabbit Bag Pattern

Let’s crochet a flapped handbag purse with oh-so cute bunny ears and an embroidered mouth. As 2mm macrame yarn is used, it is both stronger and more flexible, and has an elegant and professional finish.
There is a small pearled handle attached through metal clasps. You can also crochet an I-cord, a chain, or a bobble stitch handle.
There are two color panels on the purse with a solid edging around the flap that is sewn later on. Wanna crochet? Choose from a red or a pink bunny!
Way #2: Crochet A Shoulder Bag

This is a beautiful boho shoulder bag with an elegant texture of stripes of puff and double crochet V-stitch. It has two 100cm handles that double as a drawstring and keep the bag shut when carried.
There is also a solid, rectangular base and a 6-petal flower charm crocheted from T-shirt yarn.
You will want to use puff texture on the sides and double crochet texture for the front and back panel of the body. This looks oh-so cute in white, but you can definitely try colors like aqua, brown, or pink.
Yarn: Hemp and cotton blend yarn

Make Crochet BagsWay #3: Crochet A Drawstring Bag

With the puff V-stitch texture all around, the I-cord handle, and a pair of leaves on strings, this is the most elegant variant of the crochet drawstring rose bag.
When you draw the strings, the rim will become a beautiful bouquet of roses, much similar to the bouquet coasters. You will want to use two shades of green and purple or any other color of wool yarn to crochet yours.
You can construct it as a single piece by working in the rounds from bottom up. The rose pattern is also basic, and you can definitely try other flowers like daisy, sunflower, or tulip.
Way #4: Crochet A Purse

Let’s crochet a beautifully textured crossbody purse with a wide flap and a metallic clasp closure. As metal rings are used for attaching the handle, you can easily detach it and hold it as a clutch bag.
Such bags are usually crocheted and look prettier with macrame or T-shirt yarn, but the recommended one for this is hem-cotton blend yarn.
You will first want to crochet a rectangle base and then work the sides around it all using the beautiful criss-cross stitch. If you want to learn crocheting this stitch in detail, there are many dedicated tutorials available.
The flap should be attached separately and crocheted in the same color as the bag body. Wanna crochet? Try in pink, aqua, black, or sea green for a classical look!

Make Crochet BagsWay #5: Crochet A Short Meh Bag

This easy, short-height handbag has a beautiful cross-stitch pattern and a daisy flower charm, the only bag you need for spring. This is, however, wider due to a 28cm oval base.
I like the choice of reverse single crochet as an edging for the rim, as it is a simple, beautiful, and widely known technique.
You will also learn crocheting a cord similar to I-cord in this tutorial that makes round handles.
